The Stations

Sudbury Station

Sudbury (Suffolk), National Rail Code: SUY

Just over 11½ Miles by Train from Marks Tey, Sudbury is a Market Town on the Border of Suffolk and Essex, with a wide range of shops, from small independent business to the national chains, and with the newly built retail park, and new houses planned, Sudbury is set to grown further in the coming months.

Once a busy railway station with three through lines and a large coal yard for freight trains, Sudbury was situated on the line from Colchester to Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge via Haverhill, the line was closed between Sudbury and Cambridge/Bury in the early 60s, the Cambridge to Sudbury Rail Renewal Association are currently campaigning to get this back
Sudbury dates back to around the time of the Saxons and is also the birthplace of the famous painter Thomas Gainsborough who was born in 1727 in a house now know as Gainsborough's House, which features many examples of his paintings, and is now open for visitors to view his work. Sudbury also includes a wide range of pubs and restaurants, as well as nightclubs, a sports centre and a leisure centre including swimming pool.

For those who like walking, it is possible to walk the route of the old Railway Line to Long Melford, a village often used for the filming of BBC Series 'Lovejoy', and for this reason, the The Gainsborough was once called 'The Lovejoy Line'

Bus Services to surrounding towns and villages are provided by small independent operators, to places like Halstead, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and Hadleigh
